  • Undergraduate Academic Program

The undergraduate academic program of the department follows the Faculty program of six-year Pharm D program (and outgoing five-year B.Pharm program). Students are not admitted directly into the Department at undergraduate level but are admitted into the Faculty by the institution to pursue the Pharm D program.

  • Departmental Courses

Under the Pharm D program the Department has ten (10) theory courses and five (5) practical courses. These courses and their credit units as follows:

First Semester

Postgraduate Program

The Department runs Master’s (M.Pharm and M.Sc) degree as well as PhD in the following specialty areas.

Pharmaceutical Analysis

Natural Product Chemistry

Drug Design

Drug Synthesis

Pharmacokinetics

Drug Delivery

Drug Metabolism

 

Postgraduate admission requirements

Prospective applicants who have B.Pharm or B.Sc (Pharmacy) are admitted directly into the Master’s program (M.Pharm) of the Department. Also, those that hold B.Sc in related discipline such as Biochemistry, Chemistry, Microbiology, etc. are also admitted into the MSc program but would be required to do some prerequisite courses.

PhD admissions of the Department are for those having Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry.

All applications for admission into the Postgraduate program of the Department are made directly to the College of Postgraduate students.

 

Course duration

The minimum duration for Master’s program is eighteen (18) months while maximum duration is three years. For doctorate program, the minimum duration is three (3) years and maximum duration is six years.

Undergraduate students

There are over presently 1600 undergraduate students who take courses in the department. These are awarded degrees of the Faculty of Pharmaceuticals (Pharm D or B.Pharm).
